Join us on the beautiful Sunshine Coast to learn about simple and inspiring construction techniques with earthen materials. We will be covering natural building principles from design to finish during the morning instructionals. You will get hands-on experience working on a small dwelling for a member of the Mudgirls collective. Learn the ins and outs of different materials that are frequently used in the natural building world. Meet new friends and have fun.

Cord Wood and Cob Sauna Building

Cobble Hill, Vancouver Island

Join us in the small community of cobble hill on beautiful Vancouver Island. We will be building the walls of a sweet cob and cord wood sauna. Use all natural materials to construct a piece of usable art with your hands and feet. You will learn the basics of small space design and building including foundations, simple post and beam, wall systems, plaster, living roof construction and more. Get hands on experience building with cob and cord wood. In the second week plaster will added to the roster and be made and applied to the wall surface. See first hand how approachable this type of building really is. Plus it is super fun!

Cost $350 per week or $650 for both

Exploring Earthen Plaster

September 3 – 8th 2018
Halfmoon Bay, Sunshine Coast

**THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL**

This end of the summer workshop will be a great time to plaster and finish Amanda-Rae’s place in Halfmoon Bay. You will learn how to mix and apply base coat plasters and renders as well as taking part in testing finish plasters. We will experiment with a variety of plaster styles. The walls are filled with both light clay straw and cob, and so you will see how it is all constructed and ties together first hand as well and filling and packing the wooden frames. We will also be looking at how to prepare for the laying of an earthen floor. Like all our workshops,  the basic aspects of natural building will be discussed in our morning instructionals, from foundations to finishes. Come for the learning, stay for the fun!
