In August there will be a series of storytelling workshops hosted at the Native Education College (285 e. 5th ave), followed by Cob building workshops with the Mudgirls in September.
There are three storytelling workshops:
1. Adults - Tuesday August 9, 430 - 730
2. Youth - Thursday August 11, 3:00 - 6:00
3. Children Tuesday August 16th, 10:00 - 1:00
Each workshop will start with participants getting to know each other and then, opening the space for Coast Salish Elders to tell stories from this particular land. After a short break, participants will share their own voices and stories through a facilitated process to better understand what living in this time and place means to them. Once the workshops are complete, participants will be invited to attend a visioning session to develop a design for the "Storytellers' Bench". The bench will incorporate the ideas, themes and stories that have been shared during the three workshops.
The storytelling workshops are FREE of charge and snacks will be provided.
Space is limited - pre-registration is recommended.
Community Story Telling Bench build facilitated by the Mudgirls
The Bench Building aspect of this amazing project will be held September 21st, 22nd and 23rd. During these three days we will be constructing the foundation, mixing and building with earthen materials, and adding creative design elements that will have been pulled from the fantastic ideas, and imaginationings of the story telling workshops. There is no cost to attend these days of down right dirty fun. The work will be child friendly, safe and non-toxic.
The first day of building, the 21st will involve the building of a dry stack urbanite foundation (largish pieces of broken up side walk). If you are interested in helping please bring appropriate foot wear, and gloves. Any children on that first day will not be asked to participate, but will be welcomed to help mix mud and get nice and filthy!
The days will begin at 9 with an instructional about natural building, the materials we are using and why. Each day we will focus on something a little different. So come and build something beautiful, natural in your community.
Please register before hand so we can know what kind of numbers to expect. There will be a limited amount of space.

Our natural building workshops vary in location and duration, but are always muddy, fun, inspiring, empowering and hard work. Participants leave with an understanding of natural building and the confidence and inspiration to start their own project: cabin, outhouse, garden shed, oven. Whatever you can dream, you can build!
Each workshop has a focus of learning that goes beyond building. Some examples of these are sustainable living, activism, alternative technology, permaculture, healing with art and play, and earth spirituality.
We aim to share skills and knowledge with folks of any physical and financial ability who want to learn to build naturally. We lead workshops both for women only, and ones for women and men.
We always have child care provided free of charge by a Mudgirl youth facilitator. When there are many children in attendance, parents and other workshop participants help with childcare on a rotational basis.
Generally, three meals a day of organic vegan food is provided during workshops. We charge a small fee to pay for food and a cook. The labour that participants provide is a fair trade for the teaching they receive.
For the upcoming schedule, see left. You can contact us now for more information about our workshops or hiring us.
