Natural plasters are used to beautify and protect natural walls such as cob and strawbale.
Traditionally plasters have been made from ingredients like earth, sand, lime and gypsum, though we generally make ours from local clay and sand. Fibres such as animal hair, cat tails, sifted straw is also added. We sometimes add wheat paste to finish plasters to reduce dusting and to add strength.
We also use similar materials to make natural paint which are coloured with natural pigments.
Though natural plasters are used mostly on natural walls, they can be applied to conventional walls for a warm, healthy and beautiful alternative to latex paints.
